Short Fiction Writing Contest for the Heinlein Centennial
http://www.heinleincentennial.com/rahcwritingcontest.html
Purpose & Concept
To promote the creation of short fiction in the style of Robert A. Heinlein.
Keep in mind that Heinlein’s work is the prototype for much of modern science
fiction. He did his best to be scientifically precise (allowing for
imagination and extrapolation). His stories followed a logical structure, and often
looked at ordinary things (marriage, technology, politics, death) in
extraordinary ways.
Guidelines
Each manuscript must meet the following requirements:
1. Length – 1,500 to 7,500 words.
2. Typed – Double spaced on one side of the paper (or equivalent in
word processing file). Use a clear font type such as Times New Roman or
Courier.
3. Title Page – Include name address, phone number, story title, and
length. Add e-mail address if available. The author information should only
be on the cover/title page. Start story on separate page and include only
story title and page number on each page of story.
4. E-mail entries must be submitted in .RTF (Rich Text Format). We
will make a good faith attempt to open other formats but only RTF is guaranteed
of acceptance and readability.
5. Mail a clean copy—Do NOT submit originals. Manuscripts will NOT
be returned.
6. All stories must be “Heinleinesque” in nature. They must display
well-manufactured plots, distinctive characters, and any science must be
thoughtfully developed. Judges will be the final arbiters of the interpretation of
“Heinleinesque.”
7. Stories should be previously unpublished in either print or
electronic format.
8. Stories must be emailed or postmarked no later than Midnight
(12:00 a.m.), February 15, 2007, to the Heinlein Short Fiction Contest
coordinator.
